Welcome to Budd Riker - Light in the Sea
Ever since I can remember, I have had a heartfelt passion for photography. It has been a vehicle for getting out into the world and seeing new places and meeting new people. In 1978 I made my first underwater images and have been connected to the sea ever since. I have traveled the world and have photographed in many places, but I am always drawn back to the water.
My images and film work have been published internationally. I have taught hundreds of people to dive and make pictures underwater. However, the real joy has been the opportunity to meet the people I have met and go to the places I have been. Whenever I am making pictures, whether it be in morning light of the Sierra Nevada or in the warm, blue of a Pacific reef, I remember the words of Ernst Haas.
"There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are."
Light in the Sea is my tribute to the Oceans that I love so much. Because the Earth's oceans make up 70% of it's surface, I named my website and my photo business accordingly. I hope you enjoy your visit to my galleries. I will be continuously updating my images, both above and below the sea. If you have comments you wish to share, or maybe your own ideas of what the ocean means to you, feel free to send them along by clicking on the Drop Me a Note.
